Rabbi Sherman Biography

RABBI DANIEL M. SHERMAN

Rabbi Daniel Sherman has served as the spiritual leader of the Tree of Life Congregation since July 2006. He came to TOL following the retirement of Rabbi Sanford Marcus.
Rabbi Sherman is passionate about his Judaism and sharing the richness of our sacred Jewish heritage and teachings. He enjoys working with and teaching congregants of all ages, as well as representing our Jewish community.
Rabbi Sherman was ordained at the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, OH in 1999. Before coming to Columbia, he served as Assistant and Associate Rabbi of Temple Shalom in Naples, FL for seven years.
Rabbi Sherman is a product of the Reform Movement, having grown up at Temple Israel of Tulsa, OK. He has also spent many summers at Union for Reform Judaism camps, as a camper, counselor, unit head, educator, and faculty member. He received his B.A. in History from Yale University in 1993.
Rabbi Sherman is married to Morgan Sherman, and they are the proud parents of Shai (age 5 ½) and Janna (3).
