Worship at Tree of Life Congregation
Shabbat Evening Service
Our Shabbat Evening Services begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evenings in the sanctuary. Our goal is to provide meaningful, spiritual, and educational worship experiences in an environment that is warm and welcoming. We utilize the liturgy and prayerbooks of the Reform Movement. Prayers are recited both in Hebrew and in English.
Music is an important part of our services. Sharon Witherell is our very talented Music Director. Melodies range from traditional to modern and vary week to week. For accompaniment, we take advantage of piano and organ, as well as guitar, oboe, English horn, and clarinet on occasion.
Our Shabbat Evening Service includes a Torah service, as well as a sermon or D’var Torah (Torah teaching) by Rabbi Mollo. We also include a special prayer for healing for all those who are ill. If you would like to request a name to be added to our prayer list, please contact the Temple office.
Our services are participatory – we encourage everyone to join in. All are welcome to our worship services at Tree of Life. A festive Oneg Shabbat reception follows the service in the Reyner Family Social Hall.
Please note that the time may change for special services or holiday services.
Shabbat Morning Service and Torah Study
Once a month, we hold a special Shabbat Morning Service beginning at 10:30 a.m. This service is smaller and more informal than our regular Shabbat Evening Service. We take time to discuss the prayers of our worship service. Rabbi Mollo also leads an in-depth discussion and exploration of the weekly Torah portion. A light Kiddush lunch follows the service.
KIDZ Shabbat is a special way for our youngest children (ages 1 – 12 years old) and their families to welcome Shabbat at TOL. We begin with singing and a short service in the sanctuary, followed by an activity and grape juice with challah. KIDZ Shabbat is led by our Religious School Director and Rabbi. It is a wonderful “first service” for our kids, and a great way for the kids and parents to get to know each other at Temple.
KIDZ Shabbat usually takes place once each month on a Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
Kabbalat Shabbat Service
This is our special early Shabbat service held at 6:00 p.m. approximately every other month. Our Kabbalat Shabbat Service is more informal with lots of music. Come as you are and enjoy this special one-hour early service for all ages.
Bar and Bat Mitzvah Services
At age 13, Jewish boys become a “Bar Mitzvah” (“son of the commandments”) and girls become a “Bat Mitzvah” (“daughter of the commandments”). We mark the occasion, which comes after years of study in our Religious School, with a special Bar or Bat Mitzvah service. Bar or Bat Mitzvah services take place at TOL during either a Shabbat Evening Service or Shabbat Morning Service.
At a Bar or Bat Mitzvah service, the student leads the worship service, reads from the Torah for his/her first time, and offers a derash or teaching. Every Bar or Bat Mitzvah service is a true simcha (“joyous time”) for the family and for our congregation. The TOL congregation is invited to be a part of all of our B’nai Mitzvah services. All are welcome.
